How to Surrender in Valorant
Valorant competitive mode can run 30-40 minutes per match. When things go wrong early, you do not have to sit through the whole thing. Riot Games added a surrender feature back in Patch 1.02, and it has been refined over the years to make the vote system fairer and more accessible.

How to Start a Surrender Vote
To surrender in a Valorant competitive match, open the chat box and type /ff or /forfeit. This triggers a surrender vote that displays a pop-up asking every teammate to vote yes or no.
- Type /yes or press F5 to vote yes.
- Type /no or press F6 to vote no.
- You need at least 4 out of 5 votes to pass the surrender.
- You can only call a surrender vote after round 5 (updated from the original round 8 limit).
- Surrender can only be used once per half (every 12 rounds).
When Can You Surrender?
The surrender option is available in Competitive mode after the 5th round. This threshold was lowered from round 8 in an early patch to give teams an earlier exit when a match is clearly lost. The one-surrender-per-half rule prevents spam voting and keeps the focus on gameplay.
If you have a teammate who disconnected early, the surrender vote is usually the fastest way out. In unrated or spike rush modes, surrender is not available since those matches are shorter by design.
Tips for Using the Surrender Feature
Surrendering should be a last resort. Valorant is a game of momentum shifts, and many matches turn around after a few good rounds. Only call for a surrender when the score gap is wide and your team morale is low.
