The Kingston XS2000 portable SSD is one of the smallest External Solid State Drives in the market. Don’t get fooled with its small form factor. This SSD is packed with the latest technology in drives that includes the latest USB 3.2 gen 2×2 technology which can give some speeds that you wouldn’t have seen before.

The small form factor and the insane speeds would make it a perfect fit for those content creators & video editors who want to edit on the go who usually deal with large-size files. So without further ado, let’s check out this little beast that’s fast, durable, and powerful.

Kingston XS2000 first look & Impressions

This small beast measures 0.5 inches by 1.3 by 2.7 inches and weighs barely an ounce at max. This SSD has almost the same length as a thumb drive but just 2x wider. This drive has a gun silver color body with black borders on the side making it look sleek. Inside the box, you also get a black protective case that is stretchable and has a snug fit to the drive which can protect it from any kind of damages.

Kingston XS2000 Review

Port wise, the center top of the Kingston XS2000 has a type C port in the center that supports USB C 3.2 Gen 2×2. Inside the box, you also get a 12 inch USB C to USB C cable. To get the fullest speed, the USB C 3.2 Gen 2×2 has to be connected to a computer that can actually support it. But nevertheless, this SSD also allows backward compatibility, so if you are a USB C 3.0 or a 3.1 version user, nothing to worry. It will work just fine.

There is a hand full of laptops in the market that support the USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 and a few high-end computer motherboards that support the USB C Gen 3.2 2×2. The Kingston XS2000 comes out of the box with the exFAT format that makes it perfect to use with Windows, macOS, and Android without any problem. There are no compatibility issues that you need to be worried about, just plug & play and enjoy high-speed data transfers on any device.

The handy dandy rubber shield provided in the box is a lifesafer. SSDs are usually safe and shocks won’t mess it up much compared to the traditional hard drives. But the XS2000 comes with a super thick rubber protective cover that has an IP55 protective rating that can easily protect your drive from drops, and secure your drive against sand & water. But please keep in mind, it is just a splash rating and not completely waterproof or dustproof.

Final Verdict

If you are a professional who always handles large size files on a daily basis, then the XS2000 is a perfect fit for you as it is portable, rugged and most importantly super fast when compared to other drives in the market. If you are not a daily user and looking for something just to store files on, then this might be overkill for you as there are much better options in the market for cheaper. But when the size comes into action, this is one of the smallest SSD drives out there in the market.
