After sharing the news a few days ago, Facebook-owned WhatsApp finally extended its video calling limit to 8 users per call. So now instead of 4 people at once, you can connect with 8 people on a video call.
This update of the version v2.20.50 on iPhone allows users for the new group calling feature. The changelog on the update page explains how users can now enjoy both audio and video calling with 8 participants. In order to use the new feature, all the users should update the application on their devices. A device without the update will not be able to access the 8 people calling feature.
How to use it?
It’s quite simple actually. Nothing else has changed in the UI as you normally call anyone you want too but then you get options to add 7 more people to the call. Also, if you’re already in a group, you can directly start a group call. To simply make a group call, you open the desired group and click the calling button. Next, you will be prompted to select the members if there are more than 7 in your group. The call will begin once you select all the members from the list.
Note – Members not in your contacts list won’t be added to the call.

One of the prerequisites to using the application is that all the users should be on the same version of updates WhatsApp. Without the latest version of the application, the user won’t be able to join the call.
WhatsApp Video Calling for android?
Currently, the update just rolled out for iPhone users and android users should expect the updates anytime soon. If you’re tired of the waiting, you can download the latest version from the website.
The app is supposed to be out worldwide by this week so users can take advantage of being quarantined right now.
Facebook also created Messenger Rooms a couple of days ago that allows up to 50 members per call. The other advantage of it is it has no fixed time for the call duration and it can go as long as you want. WhatsApp has less number of participants allowed but it’s a start. We might get to see more updates from the Facebook-owned company in the future.
