Fix Err connection reset in Chrome
One of the most faced problems of the 21st century would be a google chrome err_connection_reset problem.
Almost everyone who uses google chrome would have faced this issue at least once in their internet career. This error is annoying and occurs frequently, ruining the browsing experience.
A lot of times, the net::err_connection_reset is a network-related error caused by any unexpected changes in your problematic web or your server network settings. In such cases, there is nothing much you can do to fix this issue.
However, when the source of this problem is from the user end such as the firewall or antivirus installed on your computer, third-party extensions or service and third-party VPN clients or using the proxy, you can solve it very easily. Try these easy methods to fix the err_connection_reset Chrome issue.
Method 1: Check your Proxy Settings
By default, Chrome uses the proxy settings of your computer as its settings. It does not have any built-in proxy settings. So, if you had changed any proxy previously and forgot to turn it off in the LAN configuration of your computer, it may be the reason for you getting a net::err_connection_reset.
- To get rid of this issue, go to Control Panel and then to Network and Internet, and click Internet Options.
- Next, go to the Connections tab and select LAN settings.
- Next, uncheck ‘Use a Proxy Server for Your LAN’ and check ‘Automatically detect settings’.
- Click on ‘OK’.
Method 2: Renew your IP address
Not getting a valid IP Address from your router may be a reason for having difficulty in connecting to the internet. Renewing the IP will allow the computer to request a new IP from a DHCP server like routers. You have to release your current IP so you will be able to get a new IP. However, before renewing your IP, make sure that your computer is connected to wire your or wirelessly router.
- Click on Start and type cmd.exe, right-click on the command prompt icon and click on open as administrator option.
- Now, in command prompt type in “ipconfig/release” and press Enter, this will release your computer’s current IP Address
- Now type “ipconfig/renew” and press Enter, this will renew your computer’s IP Address.
- Restart your computer and check if you are still getting the err_connection_reset error in chrome.
Method 3: Disable your Anti-virus Program or Firewall
Sometimes, the Windows firewall or antivirus program can be the man blocking internet connection and causing the err_connection_reset error. You can temporarily disable your antivirus program or windows firewall to check whether it is the cause. Also, check your firewall settings to make sure you aren’t blocking the browser or the website that you are using.
To turn off the firewall settings, Go to the control panel, click on system and security, direct to windows defender firewall and customize the settings.

Method 4: Repair/Clean Old Junk Registry
Sometimes broken registry entries cause the net::err_connection_reset issue while browsing on Chrome. We suggest using trusted third-party tools to repair corrupted registry entries.
Don’t forget to restart your computer after Scanning your registry for errors and repairing it if any found using any of the Windows registry files cleaning utilities.
Method 5: Reset Google Chrome
The last possible way to hopefully solve this issue is by resetting the chrome. Please try all the above-mentioned options before landing here as resetting the crome may delete all the saved settings. resetting the chrome should fix configuration issues.
- Click on the 3 dots available in the top right corner and go to setting.
- In settings, click on advanced setting and there you will see an option Reset and clean up
- Click that option and choose “reset settings to their original defaults”, this will bring back the fresh chrome default settings.
