Following the TikTok ban in India a couple of days ago, Instagram Reels was seen in testing mode and was expected to launch for the users. This is a direct competition launched for TikTok in the market and is available for the Indian users on their Instagram Applications.
Instagram has finally started the testing of the application in India and is going to lengths for making it a success. The Instagram Reels feature is available for the users starting from 8th July and Instagram has invited some good influencers to test out this new feature says TechCrunch. The company has gotten hold of multiple Youtubers and TikTok starts who have a good fanbase. This will initially help them in figuring out the pros and cons of the application and how they can make it better compared to the rival TikTok.
Instagram Reels functions similarly to TikTok giving users a maximum time of 15 seconds and become as creative as possible. There are many options available for the creators while recording their video and editing it to make it engaging for their audience. Instagram already had an option to add music and some filters so it wasn’t a big deal adding all that to the Reels section. This gives the creators a lot of options to choose from and it wasn’t a big hassle for the company to integrate such features in the application.
The app currently provides users with 4 options while creating their video – Music, Speed, Effects, and timer. Music and Effects are default from Instagram while the Timer controls how long you want the video to record and the speed affects the speed of the video.

The new Instagram Reels features can be accessed in the Instagram app on the explore page which is now changed and it has a big section of “Reels” where the most popular clips are played from the top artists and creators.
By launching this, Instagram aims to promote content creation in India and wants more stars to pop up online influencing people throughout the country. Currently, the App is available in Brazil, France, and Germany along with India. Facebook says that Reels is the “Future of Entertainment” and that existing TikTok stars have already moved to Instagram and started promoting their content on the platform.
