Sony has taken another step towards making their services user friendly by launching the PlayStation bug bounty program. This is a treat for the users as well the coders/hackers who are looking to earn good money by finding out what the bug is on the platform.

According to the PlayStation blog, this new program will allow the users to have a safer place to enjoy their games without being worried about the cyber attacks they might face. The senior director of software engineering at SIE, Geoff Norton says that now the program is going public and anyone who finds out any bug in their system will be awarded accordingly. Yes! Anyone including, developers, testers, gamers, coders, hackers. Everyone is allowed in the bug bounty program and will be rewarded according to the level of threat is possess in their system.

Geoff Norton says, “To date, we have been running our bug bounty program privately with some researchers. We recognize the valuable role that the research community plays in enhancing security, so we’re excited to announce our program for the broader community.”

Moving ahead with this, Sony has partnered with HackerOne who has hosted bug bounty programs for multiple companies including PayPal. There is a limit set for two platforms of the company. One of them being PlayStation Network and the other one being PlayStation 4. There was no information about any reward for finding bugs in old devices like PS3 and PS2. Sony has classified the rewards into 4 sections in both the main sections which include – Critical, High, Medium, and Low. The highest prize for the bug bounty program is for PlayStation 4 which is $50,000 if you find a critical bug in their system.
