Looks like another popular app is caught accessing iPhone features without the user consent. This time it is none other than the popular Facebook-owned Instagram which has fallen to the awesome development by Apple’s new iOS version.

A new discovery by some users on their Instagram application regarding the app accessing the camera of the device even when the user doesn’t have the camera actually opened. This was noticed with the help of a new iOS 14 feature which pops the led on the device when an application accesses the camera. The indicator color for an application accessing the camera is green following the update of iOS in the devices. The same indicator was visible for the users while using Instagram.

A twitter user shared screenshots of the camera being accessed by Instagram even when the user is scrolling the news feed in the app. This directly called for a quick response from the company and they say they’re working on a fix which will be fixed soon.

The main thing to notice here is not about the app snooping on users but from how long it has been happening. The company responded quickly to The Verge and said “We do not access your camera in those instances, and no content is recorded.” Furthermore, they explained this is merely a bug in the application which was detected thanks to the new iOS 14 feature which is strict about user privacy from the third-party applications in the market. This recent technology by iOS has revealed a lot of popular applications that were spying on other iOS features provided by Apple.

A couple of weeks ago some of the big applications like Tik-Tok, LinkedIn, Reddit, etc were spotted spying on the universal clipboard data. This was noticed again with the help of the notification feature which lets you know when an app is using the data saved on your clipboards.
