I recently had the chance to test out the new 256GB Kingston DataTraveler Exodia Onyx USB 3.2 flash drive. As a power user who needs portable, fast and reliable storage I was eager to see if this affordable drive could keep up with my active lifestyle. After several weeks of hands-on testing, I’m ready to share my thoughts on the Exodia Onyx’s design, real-world performance, features and value.

Design Performance & Features Daily Usage & Reliability Value & Verdict

Design

The Exodia Onyx has an understated, refined aesthetic that sets it apart from cheaper-feeling plastic drives. Its slim silhouette features a sleek matte black finish that smoothly retracts to protect the USB connector when not in use. Despite its slimness, the zinc alloy casing feels extremely durable and has held up well being tossed in my bag everyday. At just 21mm x 10.2mm in size and 8 grams weight, it carries discreetly in my pocket without any bulk.

Performance & Features

Equipped with high-speed USB 3.2 Gen 1 connectivity, the Exodia Onyx offers rapid real-world read/write times that leave older USB 2.0 drives in the dust. In my testing, transfers of media files and documents occurred 3-4x faster compared to standard drives. With 256GB storage capacity, I’ve been able to load it up with photos, videos, work files and other data without worrying about space. The Exodia Onyx maintains strong cross-platform compatibility and plug-and-play functionality across Windows, MacOS, Linux and ChromeOS devices.

Daily Usage & Reliability

After using the Exodia Onyx as my daily driver flash storage for the past few weeks, I’m highly impressed with how it has performed. File transfers complete swiftly when I need to move data between devices, with no lags or slowdowns. So far, all my stored files remain intact with no corruption issues. The protective retractable design gives me confidence that the USB contacts will avoid deterioration over time. With the included 5-year manufacturers warranty, I feel reassured that Kingston stands behind the durability of this compact drive.

Value & Verdict

For its stellar price-to-performance ratio the Exodia Onyx adds tremendous value, delivering USB 3.2 Gen 1 speeds in a compact package at under £14.98 for the 256GB model I tested. All factors considered, this rugged high-capacity Kingston drive excels as a portable storage solution for documents, media, and backups on the go. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking reliable, travel-ready storage that doesn’t compromise on speed or size.
