Google for India keynote 2020 saw some announcements for most of the popular sectors in India. The main goal of this investment will be towards the development to digital India and the growth of the country in times of COVID-19 where all the people require help in the current situation.
The announcement was done by Sundar Pichai along with Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Communications, Electronics and IT, and Law and Justice. The event was held online along with other Google heads including Sanjay Gupta, Country Head, and Vice President of Google India. The main focus of the leaders behind this major step was to minimize the damage done towards the Indian economy and helping restore it in major sectors without facing loss.
The total investment from the company will be 75,000 crores($10bn) which will be divided into the development of multiple sectors including health, education, etc. The primary aim behind the funding is to bring in Digital Transformation into the country as Google believes India is the second-biggest smartphone manufacturer in the world. The digitization includes multiple things including the use of AI and tech in the developing fields.
This fund will help the businesses on their Digital Transformation and help in making “Indian Products and Services”. The digitization is very important in times of COVID and Google is planning to take PM Narendra Modi’s Digital India Aim to a step further. This fund is just the beginning of the Digital India transformation.

One of the major transformations Google is planning to make falls in the Education sector. In times of quarantine, the Education of the students is highly affected and the concept of E-Learning hasn’t been fully applied everywhere. Google has already collaborated with CBSE and Skill Learning for over 2 Million teachers to adapt the concept of online education for the students. The company will also provide $1Mn to Kaivalya Education Foundation to support the distance education of students with less or no resources.
